Calculate Your Check Digit

The all-important Check Digit ensures our numbers are correct

All GS1 Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) end with a Check Digit. The Check Digit is used to check the GS1 barcode number for errors, as it changes when the other numbers in a GS1 barcode number change. The Check Digit is the result of an algorithm (called the Modulo-10 algorithm) which uses the other numbers in the GTIN to ensure its correct composition.

Use the below Check Digit Calculator to obtain your barcode's check digit.

Types of GS1 Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN)

GTIN-12: 12-digit barcode number. For products coming from or will be traded in USA and Canada. The last digit (12th digit) is the Check Digit.

GTIN-13: 13-digit barcode number. To identify product items. The last digit (13th digit) is the Check Digit.

GTIN-14: 14-digit barcode number. To identify cartons and pallets (also used on product items that must be tracked and traced, like pharmaceuticals). The 1st digit (Carton Identifier) can be any number between 1 to 8, you change it depending on the packing level, carton size or carton type. The last digit (14th digit) is the Check Digit.
