GS1 Global Forum 2026

How Unauthorised Numbers* Undermine the Integrity of GS1 Standards
(Unauthorised Numbers = barcode numbers not issued or allocated directly by GS1)
GS1 is the only authorised organisation to allocate GS1 GTIN-13, GTIN-14, GTIN-8, GTIN-12, EAN-13, ITF-14, UPC-A and UPC-E barcodes. Therefore, barcode numbers offered by unauthorized barcode resellers are unrecognised & unverifiable identifiers that are NOT part of GS1's System of Standards, undermining the integrity, uniqueness and ubiquity of the GS1 System and Identification.
Examples of unauthorised resellers:
• Barcode Savers
• Hani of OEM Group (+6011-****8380)
GS1 Malaysia Collaborates with Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup (KPDN) on Unauthorised Numbers and Resellers

We collaborate closely with KPDN to promote the "Love Malaysia, Buy Made-in-Malaysia Products" Initiative, and to protect your brand against unauthorised barcodes, such as by providing access to trusted product data repositories for validation, authentication and market access.
