| Last Updated: July 29, 2010 Briefing on GS1 System | | | | Module 1 (Morning)
The demand for bar codes on products is increasing as many local retailers have adopted scanning at the check-out counters. By scanning the bar coded item number, retailers and manufacturers are able to track and trace the flow of goods along the supply chain. Queues at check outs get cleared faster; retailers can monitor inventory levels at shop floor and warehouse better; and manufacturers are able to plan the production quantity more accurately.
This briefing will cover allocation of the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) and technical specifications for a retail packaging, such as colour, size and location.
| Benefits of this briefing
This briefing will provide your company with the knowledge on how your business can avoid costly mistakes by having a bar code that can scan every time and anywhere.
Who should attend
New GS1 Malaysia members, Bar Code Coordinators, Product and Branch Managers, Marketing Managers and anyone responsible for item identification and bar codes within your organisation. | | Module 2 (Afternoon) - Bar Coding for Non-Retail Units and Logistics
The GS1 System also provides standard coding for additional information such as the batch number, expiry date, serial number, production date and many more. These additional information are required for tracking and tracing purposes. The GS1 standards enable information to be captured and transmitted quickly and accurately at any point within the supply chain.
The briefing provides knowledge on the bar codes used on non-retail pack. It also covers the creation of serial shipping container codes (SSCC) and how to encode additional information such as batch number, expiry date, production date, for tracking and tracing of logistics units.
